Henk Viljoen, BCom (Hons), MCom – Head of the Fixed Interest

Henk started his career in 1984 as a bursary student at Telkom, moving to the Treasury Division after one year. He became an economist at Senbank in 1986, before rejoining the treasury environment in 1989 at Senbank. Henk joined Liberty Asset Management in 1990 where he became Head of Fixed Income, retaining that role through the creation of STANLIB. In January 2008, Henk handed over the day-to-day responsibility of fund management for all third-party, life asset and retail bond funds to Victor Mphaphuli, although he retains his executive responsibilities as Head of Fixed Income and Chairman of the Interest Rate Committee. This committee is the key macro factor committee which determines the duration positioning of our fixed income mandates.

Henk has three key staff reporting to him: Victor Mphaphuli, Head of Bonds; Ansie van Rensburg, Head of Money Market; and Kate Rushton, Head of Credit.

Victor Mphaphuli BCom (Hons) (Econometrics) – Head of Bonds

Victor started his career in 1996 at Standard Bank Treasury as a trainee foreign currency dealer, and then moved to Nedbank Investment Bank as a bond market dealer, giving him good preparation for his move to STANLIB (then LIBAM). At STANLIB, he has been part of the Fixed Interest division starting as a bond dealer and then assuming added responsibility on fixed income Portfolio Management. Victor was appointed as Head: Bond and Income Funds with effect 1 March 2008, assuming full responsibility for management of the funds.

Ansie van Rensburg, BCom (Hons) (Economics) – Head of Money Market

Ansie served her articles with Theron van der Poel. She later joined Volkskas Merchant Bank as a management trainee and later as a money market trader. She was involved in the founding of CM Interbank, a money broking operation during 1987. Later, she was appointed as an alternate director in charge of the funding operation of the NDH Bank Ltd when CMI was sold to NDH Bank Ltd. She joined SCMB Asset Management in 1991 and is a member of the investment strategy team, specifically responsible for the investment of funds in the fixed interest and money markets. She is currently the Deputy Head of Fixed Interest and Head of the Cash Management proposition at STANLIB Asset Management.

Kate Rushton, BCom (Economics and Business Economics) – Head of Credit

Prior to joining STANLIB, Kate was the Principal Corporate and Credit Analyst at ABSA Capital. A multi-award winning analyst, she has extensive experience in financial analysis in various roles including working at London-based UBS Warburg’s Investment Banking Division and more recently as Corporate and Credit Analyst at Standard Corporate and Investment Bank (SCMB).
